Services

Mama's House is a multidimensional intervention program designed to bring lasting change to youths and adults who are at risk, or in need.

Because the needs are diverse in the populations served, Mama's House serves as a community resource as well.

We are unique in that we are a "nurturing" facility, providing individual assistance as needed.

  • Educational Life Skill Programs

Our educational life skill program uses  a curriculum which offers fun, interactive classes in anger management, self-esteem, networking, money and job skills, goal setting, how to choose friends, and many other subjects.  We also provide mentoring through our senior mentoring projects. Tutoring in math and english is available.  We do field trips on occasion to various community events, symphony, concerts, restaurants, etc.  We build a sense of "family and community" into our program.  These classes are taught after school in both public and private school settings.

  • Food and Clothing

We donate food and clothing on an as needed/available basis.  Some clothing is donated, gently used and clean, other clothing is supplied new from factory overruns, or retail stock. We also partner with other groups in meeting the needs of our local community as well.  We provide food baskets/boxes as needed, or individual prepared meals to homeless individuals.
  • Global Outreach

We send needed articles/educational materials to children overseas in orphanages/schools where we are in partnership.  This is our international outreach
  • Basic Bible Study

Our basic bible study provides a foundation for lifelong character change and spiritual guidance.  Our "family" generally prays together, but it is not a mandatory practice for anyone.  All are accepted.  We learn basic biblical principles and their application.

  • "Hometraining"

This is not a separate scheduled class.  However, it is interwoven within class sessions as the need arises.  There are many of us who would benefit from some good "old fashioned" knowing how to get along with each other--basic rules for living.  We discuss and iron out issues or potential problem areas as a group, valuing everyone's input.  This is also a good way to learn how to deal with issues in  multicultural settings.
  • Community Resources

We disseminate information as a direct response to inquiries about job openings, housing information, or information about other agencies in the community.
  • Sarah's Place:  A Women and Children's Shelter

This is an immediate need.    Sarah's Place is so named after my deceased mother, who spent a good many years of her life serving others.  She took in people who had no place to live, fed many folks who were just hungry and down on their luck.  Many times she housed and fed musicians who would work in our town, Cleveland, Ohio.  Because of this rich legacy, we had people of all nationalities living with us at one time or another.

Sarah's Place is to be a temporary shelter, "a home away from home" while women and children are in a transitory place in their lives.  Also, with the housing market crunch, it will help people who were living in homes that were foreclosed.

The director, spent time training in a transition home, in preparation for developing Sarah's Place.

Mama's House...a place everyone wants to be!

We gain the respect of both our private and public school students  by listening to their needs, and by their participation in class.

Our at risk students generally come to us traumatized, angry, or shy, and leave..(did I say leave?..because they don't want to leave) loved and nurtured to a new level.
